Soccer in America is shaped by inherited traditions, new rituals, local clubs, global loyalties and communities experiencing the game in their own way.
The American soccer audience is not one audience. It includes families formed around youth fields, supporters of local clubs, followers of the women’s game and fans carrying loyalties from other countries.
That mix is the character of the game here. Soccer culture grows when those audiences can recognize one another without losing the traditions and local identities that brought them to the sport.
